On September 17, 2024, the 17th edition of the Plastics Industry Meeting took place in Warsaw, Poland, where experts from the plastics and recycling industries discussed the future of the circular economy in Europe.
Among the key topics discussed at the conference were the challenges of circularity, the competitiveness of the European industry, and the growing importance of plastics in the decarbonization of strategic economic sectors.
One of the important voices in the discussion was Krzysztof Nowosielski, representing ML Polyolefins, a plastics recycling company. Nowosielski stressed that circularity, while crucial to Europe’s ecological transformation, does not currently have an economic driving function. He pointed out that as long as circularity does not become the basis for growth, Europe will be too weak to compete effectively in the global market and achieve its ambitious green transformation goals.
The panel also discussed several challenges related to legislation and the need for greater cooperation between industry and regulators. Speakers pointed to the need to simplify regulations and better align regulations with business realities, especially in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises.
